I just recently purchased 3DS Max 5, and I honestly don't know how to do anything with it. I've been messing around with it for a day, but I can't seem to get all that far with anything. If any of you have any good tuts or effects it would be great.

go thru the manuals to start, they're decent. from there figure out specifically what you want to learn then find tutes on that, there's tons of books and tutes all over the web.

Well I'm not really interested in learning the entire program - just using it for some cool effects.

wow, so you paid 3 grand for a program just to learn to do some effects...i wish i had that kinda cash lying around. its tough to do much in 3d without understanding the basics, which is what the manuals are for. i'd say go thru those to figure how the software basically works, then buy some books on what you specifically want to do and work from those.

Hey, I bought 3D Studio MAX, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Director, Dreamweaver and many more just so I could learn how to use them, don't all of you do that.

As for learning 3D Studio MAX, I'm not good with it at all, but as for any complex software, I suggest you buy a very good book, the Bible's are normally extremely detailed and start from scratch.

Damn, where that £5000 I was using to wedge my door open with!?

Try using Filter > Cool Effects. Then click on ok that comes up in the dialog box...Speak into the microphone describing the "cool effect" that your thinking of. Then click on the dialog box that says "create cool effect" and that should do it.

3 grand well spent.
