Take your image, select all-->Copy You're going to have to double the height of the image, so go to Image-->Canvas Size-->Set the Height to double what the original image was Now Paste the copy of the image onto your canvas. Then Edit-->Transform-->Flip Vertical If you haven't done so already, move the image down so that it is on the very bottom of the original image. Then select the layer that your upside-down image is in if it's not selected already, then go to Filter-->Distort-->Ripple, or Filter-->Distort-->Ocean Ripple, or Filter-->Distort-->Glass Play with the settings until you get it right. Of course there are ways to get it to look better by playing with things, but this should do ya' for now. If you want to know more, just post back. |

I just read your post again, and now I'm not sure if you wanted the effect like I talked about, or if you want your waterfall to have the ripple effect........ Clarify if you were talking about the latter. |

I want this small waterfall to fall into a sea and where those two come together I need this ripple effect so that it looks more realistic (I did the picture with bryce - and there is no such effect there)

Then just use the lasso tool to select the area that you want to ripple and maybe feather it a few pixels, then run your filter. I don't know what your picture looks like, but I'm guessing and this may work for the effect that you are looking for. But then again, that just depends on how large the image is. If it is a smaller image, then that will work fine by just playing with the filter settings, but if the picture is large, say 1024x768, then I don't think that will give you a realistic looking enough effect. If you have it, then 3D Studio Max would work for that effect, or if you are daring and skilled enough, you could always play with the airbrush in Photoshop.....but that would take tiiiiiiime.

The filer you need is the Zig/Zag filter Check out this page I made up for you with some examples for souxie! The zig-zag filter - very badly named -I think whoever was in charge of Gallery Effects a the time was in some kind of daze! Its very easy to actually refine Bryce images and other 3D stuff in Photoshop - giving you complete control over the final appearance. Copy the selection I have highlighted onto a seperate layer - (New layer via copy). Then reselect (control click the new layer) and run the zig/zag filer. You can transform the result to make it narrower - if you want . The put a layer mask on the new layer and paint black into the layer mask obscuring the bits of the new layer you dont need! |

Well that is definitely a lot better than what I came up with. Now that I see the photo though I do understand it a lot better. And you know, I didn't even know that Zig-zag filter was there. And I thought I'd gone through every single filter PS has to offer. And you are right, that is TOTALLY the wrong name for that filter. I've played with it a bit tonight, and I see no zig-zag to it. |
