i noticed that when i double click on a layer it selects all the image of the layer..but sometimes that doesnt happen..why?

It's only CTRL+Click that does that. Double-clicking the layer would either load up the Layer Effects window (6.0) or you can rename the layer (7.0).

It does not work on the Background layer... In fact the fonction select evry elements that is not transparant...so if there is no tranparent elements (or thje whole layer is tranparent) it will not work. Backgrond layers heve no transparent elements... |

But...now I'm confused, I think. selects the hole layer ?...Well, if you've done a square pic with square layers filled to the brim, it selects the "hole" layer, but if you just do a tiny thing on a layer the ctrl+click does souly selects that part on that layer, don' it ?

Correct. Ctrl-click selects ALL pixel edges on a layer, and retains the amount of transparency that the pixels have. Fairly useful for masking. If the layer is 100% full of pixels, it will get them all, and if there is only a few pixels, it will only get them. |
