Defining Custom shapes in PS7

How do I take an Illustrator object and save it as a custom shape in Photoshop 7.0?
I know in PS6 you paste the vector shape as shape layer, then edit>define custom shape. However this is not working in PS7. Does anyone know the new method ?

Thats the way it works for me (in PS7). Not sure what you are doing, but be sure to use the path selection tool and have the shape layer selected (to see the edges of the path). It "should" be working.
