How does this thing even work. Tutorials say drag this tool over part of a rectangle and then you have part of a rectangle to transform. Well I use this tool and drag it over half of a rectangle which is on a new layer and nothing the heck happens. I am frustrated just messing with it. Also, after I drag it over it says I am supposed to go to Edit->Free Transform Points. Thanks.

The Direct Selection tool is used for transforming paths, not rectangles...well maybe a rectangle made from paths. A shortcut to the direct selection tool when you are using the bezeir pen tool is Alt (option on a Mac). Draw a path, close it, click on the selection tool and play around with the handles etc.

Hope it is good because I have had it with ****ty sites that have a damn tutorial, but assume that you know already how to do everything...
