Hey...I've been looking for other places to use my graphics skills since the web job market blows and been thinking a little about doing stuff for motorcycles, PWC's (personal watercraft) and cars...Anyone here done that kind of work before? I'm just curious about designing for the contours and stuff, to make sure things come out looking right....Any tips people can give me would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks--

Hi there, I used to do signwriting and vehicle graphics for a few years. If you go down that road you'll need to work more in vector graphics than raster. Everything you do will nedd a vector outline for the plotting side of it. My time was before all the colour camm's and gerber edge equipment was around.

As for fitting to shaped objects we used to make basic tracings on the real article before starting work. We placed very thin sticky back film onto the boat/vehicle to get the sahpes required and then digitised them for vinyl plotting. A lot of people prefered us to use removable vinyl as oposed to premanently defacing so there is always a good demand for this type of work.
