I've got a picture of a ring lying on a surface (3D pic). I'd like to make some text so it looks like it's on the ring, encircling it. How do I do that? I've tried all the free transform functions, no results. THX! |

can you give us a link to the ring so we can get a better idea of how to accomplish what you're asking.

The company extensis makes a plug-in called Photographics that will put text on a curved path directly in photoshop. Adobe does not have this feature in photoshop natively. Alternatively, if you dont want to use the extensis plug-in, you could make individual text layers with each letter on an individual layer and free transform them all until they complete the arc around the ball. A bit tedious, but thats the only way to really do it without a plug-in or adobe illustrator. Now if you want the text to look 3D, and not just as 2 dimensional text on a 3D ball, you will have to use adobe illustrator or export the text paths from photoshop as an illustrator .ai file. Then import the text paths into your 3D program and extrude them on the ball. Not sure if this is a detailed enough explanation for you, but I think I summed it up well for the advanced discussion board. |

moochan - sorry, no link, imagine a ring lying on a surface and you're looking at it from an angle (not top down) let's say 30 degrees counting from the surface. I'd like the ring to have text on it, encircling it mrbogus - I will probably have to do this, write each letter separately. The text itself is not 3D (thank heavens :D ) maybe there's a tutorial somewhere?!? Cheers. |

Somebody said "tutorial"? In PS6 and higher you have text warping capability. Look in Layer/Type/Warp Text.. Fisheye warp looks most promising. Then use the filter Render/3D Transform.. and with the cylinder tool you can get it in the right perspective (like looking it from an angle) and even make the text disappear around the cylinder if needed. |
