Make sure you have the text highlighted and go to the Menu at the top that says: Select, then go to modify in that menu and then contract and use 5.

Now Ctrl+Click on your text layer to select it, and make a new layer above it. Go to select/modify/contract and use a value of 5.

Make sure you Ctrl+Click the text layer. You should see the selection (marching ants). Make a new layer "above" that layer. You should be able to then follow the step...

OK! I got another question about the gel tutorial. :p

i'm on step 3 where it says "Now go to layer/effects/bevel and emboss and use the following settings. Or click here for a screen shot of the settings."

I dont see the effects tab anywhere on the layer section of the menu bar.
