I've been receiving documents scanned as 2 or 3 pages within a single tiff file from customers. When I attempt to open them in PhotoShop 6, I can only see the first page. Is there a plug-in or something I can do besides have the documents re-scanned into separate files?

Hmmmm.... I've NEVER received multipage TIFFs from any of my clients. How large is the file size? I may want to take a look at that... |

I'm not able to share the file, since it is a registration form with credit card information on it. My user can view all the pages within Kodak Picture Maker, but it doesn't print for her. When I open it in Photoshop, I can print fine, but only the first page, because I can't get to the subsequent pages. And, no, I don't know what software was used to create the file, since it came from an international client.

did the scanner actually scan 3 separate pages in one file? if so, adjust the scanner's viewable area larger - to the max. width probably... then take your huge .tiff, and save it out as 3 new files... or am I not getting it? |

Graphics Guy, I don't have the scanner, all I have is the Tiff file. Someone in the UK has the scanner and created the Tiff file (and yes it is one single Tiff file containing 3 separate pages/images). Then they e-mailed it to me. I can open it on one of my user's desktop using Kodak Picture Viewer, but I can not edit it in any way with that software, so I can't save it down to 3 separate page files. And the Kodak software just prints solid black pages. So I've been asked to print it with PhotoShop, but I can only see (and thus only print) page 1.

Have you tried using GraphicConverter? It's a Mac-only hunk-o-shareware, but it'll open darn near anything. Besides that, I have a few proprietary techniques that some folks on this board can vouch for (ask MobileBadBoy, for one). Also, I think the site's owner, Bob Pankala, might be willing to vouch for my honesty. Barring that, I don't know if there's anything to say to you that would convince you that I'm not about to steal a Credit Card number. I'm 43, own my own business, and wouldn't risk losing my house, freedom and a large chunk of restitution and fines just to scam a CC #. I have access to plenty of them every week from my clients...the thought never crossed my mind to do anything with them. If you decide you want me to have a crack at the file, send me a Private Message through this bulletin board and I'll send you my email address, as well as my home address and phone number if you want to confirm. I look at this sort of thing as an enticing challenge. Who knows? Maybe I'll need to know how to do it in the future. |

*scratching chin* hmmm. I dunno... Never played with the Kodak software - BUT- I got an idea. change your preferences in your OS to open .tiffs with Internet Explorer or another app besides Photoshop. Then, open it, and see if you can see all 3 and save it as a different format. Then, try opening that in photoshop... otherwise, it's 4th and long.... punt. Ask for new tiffs from your british buddies... |

Graphics Guy and Utopian23 I appreciate all your help! My total goal here was to get the document printed, I don't need to modify anything on it, and Graphics Guy your tip worked!!! I opened it in explorer and it let me print both pages!!!!! Great suggestion and thanks so very much for your help!!!! (I'm now a believer in this bulletin board sort of thing ... or at least in this one. I've never been very successful on other boards/forums in getting any replies. Thanks.)

Thanks to you DLiotta, I did some research, and I now understand the whys and wherefor's of multipage TIFFs...like where they come from, why they're used and how to deal with them if I ever receive them. Turns out I AM able to open them and export them to separate pages. I never had to...but I now know that I can if necessary. Now you need to contact your people in the UK and tell them to find another format (a couple applications that produce Multipage TIFFs is from faxes and Web-Based faxing services) to send you those images. TIFF is OK, but the multipage thing is a pain in the adz. |
