G'day. Long time lurker, first time poster here.

I'm in a dilly of a pickle here and I'm hoping someone here can solve my problem. When ever I save a .gif with transparency AND I have an outer glow it has a gray, snerky area around the glow which spoils the mood of the graphic. Is there anyway to stop that or can't I have a transparent gif with text and outer glow?

Ta in advance.

In the Save for web screen set MATTE to none. This might help a little. Outer glow uses semi transparent pixels and the GIF format does not allow for semitransparent pixels. So it might not look pretty after saving as a GIF after all.
You might want to consider placing the text with glow on its background i Photoshop. Then use the slice tool to cut up the image and you will not need transparency

After reading your post again - I´d say: No you can´t have transparency and text with outer glow :( All because of the semitransparent pixels that some of the outer glow is made of.

Anyway, the example picture you posted isn´t very glowy, you could perhaps use the stroke effect instead. This would give a very similar look and would not cause problems when saving as transparent gif

Do you mind if I ask how the stroke effect works? I've tried it before and it's come out quite wacky..

I don´t mind at all - after all, we are all here to help

The stroke effect simply puts an outline around the pixels in a layer. You can adjust the size of the stroke to get the look you want. Do NOT touch the Opacity setting if you are going to save as transparent gif. Make sure Opacity is set to 100% or you wil end up with the same problem you had with the glow effect. I´m not sure there is much more to tell... Ask away if you run into problems
