How do I install / import layer styles in photoshop 6?

you can download alot of styles right here on this site.

As far as "how to install"... unzip them to the "styles" folder inside the photoshop folder and from the "styles" pallet click the little "right pointing" arrow at the top of the pallet and select "load style"... navigate to the stile you want and click OK.... simple as that .
