Help making this...

I'm looking to make a 3d looking pencil. One of those splash images that show up when you first start teamphotoshop has a picture of one on the desk...anybody know how to make a pencil that looks like that in photoshop 6? I'll try to attach the image below.

Personally I'd either model it in a 3d program or use a stock photo like this http://66.70.197.90/zuadobank_database/IGUA0004.jpg

If you wanted to do it strictly using photoshop you could use a combination of selection tools and gradients...similar to the techniques found here in this cigarette tutorial: http://www.iservice.at/cigarette.html
