Hmmm....Dont know exactly what you mean and I dont have XP...Could you take a screen shot, crop down to that section and put a link up...or find another example of what you're talking about?

beveled down?..... as opposed to "up"? Is that what you mean? the dots are "recessed" rather than "raised"? |

I took a look at it...If you have a light blue background and you draw a slightly darker colored circle on top of it...Use a hard edged inner shadow on the darker circle you drew...Copy the layer w/ the darker circle several times and arrange them in the pattern you desire. Resize the image to a smaller size to achieve the tiny dot effect...Note: Flatten the image before resizing it...otherwise the inner shadow layer effect will not look right when you resize....Let me know if you have any questions.

hey swoop, did you try inverting it after you flatten? you know, just rotate it upside down... that works for me sometimes. - you're right though - be sure to flatten them, or at least merge the effect layer with a new, blank one, to kill off the editability (is that a word?) of the effects... |

This is not a complicated thing to do! Forget about layer styles and effects. Do it by hand. Below is a zoom view of the graphic from your link. It´s nothing but a background and 1 light block and 3 darker blocks. This can quickly be done with the pencil in photoshop. Zoom in on your document (to something really large) Make just one dot in a light colour. Next make the three darker dots next to and below the light block. Then select the dots and a small area surrounding it. Define as a pattern and fill with the pattern in a new document |
