is the technique where people make all the spikes and tentacles for their logos widely known? i've seen some basic tutorials for tentacles but its the spikes that i want to produce, are they done in 3d progs or what?

some of them are from 3D studio max, but alot of them can be made in photoshop alone. Just experiment with different layers and layer modes, I'm not sure what type of stuff you're looking to build. good luck! |

sorta like the ones in this logo http://www.7blobs.deviantart.com but crisper cheers anyway, any more specific ideas?

Coulda been done with a 3d app or maybe PS alone. If you'd like to try to achieve this with photoshop alone I'd do the following...Expirement with setting up your own custom gradients and filling selections, transforming / distorting them and messing w/ layer modes. Hope this is of some help.
