need 3ds max for spikes?

does anyone know where theres a good tutorial to produce spikes like the ones used in many website logos, for instance 7blobs' site http://7blobs.deviantart.com/ i'd like to know if theres any 3ds max tutorials covering this too, as i'll have that this weekend also, cheers.
