Hi everyone, I'm new here and I don't know too much about Photoshop. My question is pretty basic to all of you out there, so please help! I need to be able to blend two different images together, to sort of form one. An example can be found at http://www.dconniver.com at the top header where a keyboard blends in with the computer... If someone could guide me on how to do this, I would greatly appreciate it. I don't need anything too detailed, I can learn pretty fast :D Thanks in advance! |

A basic explanation: Take the first image on a new layer. Take your second image on a new layer. Make a selection on about 25% of the width of one of the images, from the side that "touches" the other. Make sure that you have the selection big enough on the side that is "outside" the image. The images have to overlap each other a bit. Then hit CTR+ALT+D, and choose a suitable pixel-amount. This will feather the selection. Now hit del. This should erase a soft part away from one of the images. Make sure that the newly partially-erased layer is on top. Now you should see how it´s done. There. ..I guess there´s a hundred ways to do this, but this is how I do it. |

Piece of cake. At the bottom of your layers tab there are 3 little icons. One is to create a new layer, one is to delete a layer and the other is to add a layer mask (The square with the circle). That's the one you want. You need to have the two images you want to blend one layer on top of the other. While the layer on top is selected, click the little square with the circle. That adds another little box next to the layer thumbnail. It also adds a little icon next to the eye on the left of the layer. Whenever that icon is visible, it means you're working in the layer mask portion of the layer. Now you notice that your color palatte changed to black & white. This is what you use to edit your mask. When you paint an area of your mask black, it makes that part of your image invisible, letting the layer below it show through. When you paint it white, it reappears. Different shades of grey change the opacity of the area. Hope that helps.

Open both images Select the move tool and "click and drag" one image into the other. In the layers pallet of the receiving image you will see it has 2 layers. each layer represents a different image. Select the top layer by clicking on it in the layers pallet. Now at the bottom of the layers pallet click the little "add a mask" icon. Hit the "D" key to set your colors back to the default black and white. Select the "gradient" tool and set it to "background to forground" and drag it from one side of the image to the other. See the result? that should get you started. |
