I kind of wanted to read it as: "I wouldn't go here if I didn't need to in order to learn, ask and debate." But you did write "waste my time", and I reacted on that. If the previous was the case I agree 'cuz if I wasn't a newbie to I p'by wouldn't be here either...or I would 'cuz it's a nice place to be in order to gain knowledge, and even the mods in this forum might learn sumphin sometimes, what do I know... All things put together I get your point of view and can agree with it up to some point. But I have to lean toward the others reasoning, though. I wouldn't dream of gettin' a job for wich I don' have the knowledge. I mean if this was his boss givin' him a task it would have been a good time right there and then to enlighten him of the fact that "Sorry, boss, goes beyond my horizon, give it to someone else..." or at least asking for an education in order to be able to do the job, wouldn't you say ? |

I got put in the same position.... I had to do some professional print work and didnt have a clue where to begin. I "dorked" around in ps, but didnt have a clue. Was there anyone else to do it? no. It was either learn it or learn it. hehe. So I learned it and am still learning. I guess that is why I am being so stubborn with this post, but when psnukehead said "that is kindergarten stuff." and went off why would you lead someone on about making them business cards and not know a thing, i had to go thru the same ordeal (not so much by choice either. You cant just get another job because your boss wants you to do something you dont know :p) So I would be kind of annoyed if someone put me down for asking how or where. I am a recording engineer and I dont diss someone if they dont understand how a compressor works and they want to record using one. I would explain it to them and give them some suggestions on how to use it right. That is kind of how I saw psnukes post, just a bit ****y and arrogant to be honest.

Ok, with that in mind I agree with you. There's not much choice but to get into it. But I could imagen that Psnuke didn't consider that aspect. That he just reacted in the "someone takes on a job they know they can't do in order to gain something and then get others to do it for him" - kindaway. And if you stop thinking there...Is he right or what ? There is a lot of plp that aren't or never will be in the situation you described but just implies to whom ever that they can do certain things and when they are to "prove" it they...(pardon me, dvdvault, not sayin' You are...) do like this, tryin' to get it done the easiest way possible instead of going back to basics, learn the sh*t and actually do it themself after that, wouldn't you agree ? But, as always, there is more to things then meets the eye. Given the facts You put up, I do agree with You. And disregarding them I agree with psnuke. Hmm, I kinda just greeses along here, don' I ? Well, that's me. I see both sides always and then pass judgement ....for I'm God, and what I say goes:D *previewing reply, lookin' at the new excuse for a sig, sipping java, and thinkin...everything is more easy when you actually talk to eachother, submitting reply* |

Hi Guys, well....s&%t...what have i done :( PSknucklehead: you have basically mis-interpreted the whole motive behind the question...theres no conspiracy theory here...quite simply needed some pointing in the right direction. My boss asked me to have a go at designing our new business cards for our small company (engineering) to try and avoid the cost of having it done professionally. My experience has been only with web design - Macromedia Products, but i had a facts sheet from the printer that specifed what they needed, hence, the original post. Men....why did you get so hostile...???? Marble: Thankyou very much for your help, and (above all) patience & kindness, this is the type of help i have come to love from forums. I frequent the forums at flashkit.com, and i have never seen anyone been so 'unhelpful' and intolerant and arrogant as PSKnucklehead!! Im just starting in the print side of design, and VERY much appreciate your help Also, why did everyone gang up on marble, he and !moochan! were the only 2 people who look like they use these boards to actually help people... I would have absolutley NO problem creating our Business Card in Fireworks , but it has to be in PS....sorry if I have pissed anyone off...seems like PSKnucklehead just had a bad day... Once again...thanks Marble for your help, much appreciated Cheers dvdvault |

Man....some real pissy folks here!!!! This poor guy didn't imply anything...instead some you jump on him like rabid wolves. You are just the type of people we need around here to provide a warm welcome to the new folks on the forum! PSNuklehead and MAD68790, where were y'all when I first started on this forum, what a wonderful welcome wagon you would have been. I'd be happy to help you, dvdvault, but I see only petroglyphs on your first post. Perhaps I should go acquire some skills at a local community college or something before I open my mouth. Then again, I'm sure us hobbiests have other skills we utilize on a day to day basis that the high and mighty do not have....one of them being people skills. Lates, Justin *PS- welcome to the forum dvdvault |

Choose carefully, I have PS5 for dummies and have found it quite helpful. I have another book, New Masters of Photoshop (Thanks Pank!), which is great for inspiration, and has some killer tutorials for the advanced. Too advanced for me, I seem to do much better with a set of pencils and this stuff called paper!!! Lates, Justin |

Forget all these dispute already I have heard enough and see enough of it around us everyday. Just get to the band wagon and help those that need help (like me). And stop being so arrogant about it. This is not a dispute forum right? If it is I might as well dispute at home it is more fun aleast I can see face to face. Enough of the BS and let get to business. By the way anyone knows how to do menu drop down effect? THx Cheers |
