Hi, i'm very interested in recreated the technique shown at this website. http://www.dj-designs.com/ Inparticular the blue, almost aurora like glow effect he has at the tops and bottoms of his main page. I realise there are lots of layers there and i've done some similiar glow looks with the color dodge mode. Is this the best way to achieve a glow in photoshop or do you think he's used another technique? |

This is a stab in the dark. First, follow the steps of this little experiment here. http://www.stridingstudio.com/tutorials/ Then I would venture to guess, play with blending modes on top of your current bgimage and add a little blur. |

Thanks for the help. THough being somewhat new to photoshop i can't seem to locate the 'preserve transparency' option he talked about in one of his tutorials (zoom glow). Back to the manual for me, though it may be that that option has moved since that was written. I have PS6.0.

I think preserve transparency is still on the layers pallet in ps6, its just the went to little graphics, to make additional space, I think its the little checkerbox, when you mouseover, a little text box pops up that says "preserve transparent pixels"... Think thats what preserve transparency became.. Snore |

I really wasn't going for sarcasm, but I can see where you would get that. I was really only saying "If it isn't still on the layer pallet, I HAVE KNOW IDEA!" didn't mean to come off sacasticaly, sorry |

Jupast, I'm not entirely sure what he used to create the auroroid images, but I do know that Kai's Power Tools 5 contains a filter called FraxFlame, which generates simply beautiful objects much like the ones you are talking about. You KPT is kind of pricey, but contains some really great filters. It was a MetaCreations product, but is now being distributed by Corel. Hope this helps a bit. |
