i was wondering if there would be a big difference if i changed my JPEG images into TIFF images. If you were move around a JPEG image, would it could become "unstable" and would the quality of the picture possibly become lost?? please reply with your opinons. it would be greatly appreciated.

I'll admit i know little of how jpg and tiff are compressed. However i do know that tiff stores VERY high quality images, while jpg is mainly used for the web or smaller files. Tiff, no matter how cool it is, can't be used on the web. If you are talking about saving images for print then yes, i'd use tiff over jpg. i DO know that every time you save your image as a jpg you loose a little bit of quality |

She's right, JPG's degrade each time you save them. I was so bored once, I actually tested it. The main difference you'll see, is file size. TIFFs are much larger in the MB area than JPGs are. TIFF is good, or PSD. Just not JPG. JPG is great for web use. otherwise it's pretty lousy. good luck |

A teensy bit OT, but... has anyone ever tested LWZ Compression when saving a tif to see if there is any degradation of the image?

File > Automate > Batch Create an action that converts the image to a tiff. If you don't have to waste time opening all the images and saving them and annoying stuff like that then this should be considered 'faster' |

erh...your converting from JPG to TIFF doesn´t do any good, I´m afraid.... JPG in itself is packed. JPG´s packing system builds on converting aread with "almost" the same color to bigger blocks of exactly the same color. Thus, converting the images "almost" same-color-areas to one BIG pixel (explained in a simple matter). Compared to GIF, it´s a more colour-frinedly version of packing information. GIF is pixel-related in a more "Loyal"-way, the Compuserve GIF doesn´t **** with the amount of pixels, it just makes the image hold less colour-info. So, if you convert a .JPG to a TIFF, I think the operation someone (in this case the camera) called for, to pack it to JPG, already made the damage..... I´m really not 100% sure about this, I actually think the camera itself could "hold" the converting untill it has to... Sounds a bit funny, I know..but... LOL .. |

No your right. once you have it as a jpg converting it to tif isn't going to make it better. HOWEVER its not going to make it worse either (from what i understand) every time you save the tiff file you aren't screwing with your image like you are with a jpg.
