smooth curves

Could someone tell me how to draw smooth curves (I don't care if it's in a new layer) in photoshop 6.0. I can't figure this one out.

I know that you have to use the pen tool, but the help doc with photoshop isn't really teaching me on how the pen tool works.

So does anyone know a pretty easy way to make those smooth curves?

for a quicky.......

Get the pen tool..... click on your image to "anchor" the path. move about an inch and click again.... but don't let off the mouse.... now while still holding down on the mouse.... drag. watch what the path does as you drag.

another tip.... when you drag to smoth the curve.... try to drag in the direction that you intend to "next" anchor point.
