hi! i mainly work with flash/director but have know my way around photoshop reasonably well. i really liked the style the designer has used here: =================== ==================== i'd really like it if anyone could let me know how to go about producing in a similar style (kind of not 'photoey' if you see what i mean, more 'vectorish' [i know i'm being REALLY clear here, but hope you get my drift ;) ]... what software (illustrator/freeehand?) to use in association with photoshop... and or techniques that are used to achieve an effect similar to these. thanks for any help guys, take care, J |

That's trendy. I'm 90% sure that all of those are done in Photoshop. THere's no technique that any of use can teach but you can experiment with it. Its mainly polygons, and type. I like that fourth one. Is it a wallpaper? any links? |

I hate sites that are designed like that. I don't even know how to navigate around. Can't find a single wallpaper there. Well add 10% there to Illustrator cause I'd prefer to do layouts in PS. Well, you could email him |

What an awful site to navigate. I clicked BACK within 10 seconds of trying to find a link!! It does look like a lot of vector work has gone into the design. Not original, style was used a lot on CD covers in late ninties. The basic thing to remember when trying to create a composition like this (vector or digital), is to keep a well stocked set of library elements. Preferably ones created by yourself. That way you can select say five or six elements that work well together and slap them on a blank page. Shall I discuss one of the images? Ok I won't discuss the lines as they all look like paths of sorts drawn in a vector package and then tweaked. You must know how to draw lines, with varying degrees of thickness, surely!? The last one, my fav, looks like a digital and vector composition. Have a look at the large element directly behind the I AM YOUR text. It's a digital image that has been used to create similiar vector shapes that follow the outline. That is a trick. Look at the elements fading behind it. Are they similiar digital images or a vector recreation of the original!? A simple CTRL click on layer, add new layer, then fill new layer, with selection still active, with a colour. All the other bits, like the box that has a large frame on two of it's sides are just shapes. Different shapes with varying thickness. Have a go yourself by drawing some basic squares, circles etc. and then laying them out so they follow some "invisible" line or vanishing point. The only reason why these images work, as they are, is because dynamics has been put into the image. Primarily in the way and direction that the elements flow. The top green image forces your eye level upto the top right cause of the amount of detail, then the lines on the background that look like a track and field marking, allow your eyes to gently fall down the picture and across to the left. Ensuring that you read the text at the bottom. All great compositions involve this type of flow. You can see how the others flow as well. Sometimes there's more to digital composition than meets the eye. Good luck in your endeavours. |
