i dont know if this is advanced, or newbie, but i couldnt find how to do it anywhere...i want to make a negative of a selected part of a pic. i dont want it inverted...i want it the exact opposite of the selection...like when you get back your pics from developing a roll of film. anyone know how?

i've tried that...its different somehow...it doesnt really negative it...i have a blue lightning bolt in this pic & when i invert it, it just makes it a deeper shade of blue. you can see the effect i want if you put some text on a layer over a pic & then seelct the text...the part of teh selection that overlaps the text will negative whatever is behind it...that's the effect i want.

Desaturate the layer, and then invert it.

aha..i've been playing around with it & i've got exactly what i want...heres what i did... 1) select the part you want to negative & copy it. 2) desaturate the selection, then invert it. 3) create a new layer above the first & paste it in. 4) invert the new layer & set blend mode to screen. i tried it of a pic of my friend & it looks exactly like one of the negatives you get back with film...just what i was lookin for =) thanks for the help anyways |

might even want to give it a little brown tint if you want that realistic effect- because real negatives are sorta brown, not just straight b/w
