I issue a challenge: Can someone PLEASE tell me how I can control these IDIOTIC temp files on my WIN2000 PC's scratch disk? Why "IDIOTIC", you ask? - for example, let's say I am working on a 800 MB file. I look at my D Drive, and I have several (up to 7, so far) of the files listed in the subject line of this message. Often times taking up over TWO GIGS of memory each. (that's 14+ gigs of scratch space for an 800 MB file, my calculator tells me so.) I have tried or done the following already w/ no success: 1. my scratch disk is on a separate drive from Photoshop. 2. my RAM is plenty. I have a gig. 3. I have export clipboard off. 4. I set my History States to 1. 5. I only have one document open, no other apps. 6. I've purged "all" under the Edit/Purge. thanks, I appreciate and anticipate anyone's advice on this one. |

Check in the PS preferences. I know I have come across an option to set the maximum size of the scratch disks.

really? where? All I can see is that you can pick your scratch disks, and adjust the percentage of RAM you want to be reserved for Photoshop. |

Sorry man, I was wrong. I went back and checked and didn't find a max size. I had a similiar problem when running under the classic environment in Mac OS X. I had to clear up space on my primary hard disk to make more room. I never had a file size that you have though.

you said Mac.... I think that's the fix!!! You see, this is like trying to build a house with a fork and a spoon. I know I'm gonna catch hell for that, but this machine just isn't the tool for this gig. * listening for the thunder of angry PC people running after me* |

If you have a gig of ram, give photoshop 80 or 85% of that. It's in preferences. Just use the slider and restart photoshop. I only have 768MB and I set photoshop to run using 85% of that. My tmp files are nowhere near that size. |
