How can I go about this?

I need to know how to create a graphic that looks like a branch. You know the old breed layout? Like that, or for example, something similar to the branches in this: http://www.monaux.com/images/breed_redesign.jpg

Once you get there, scroll down to the very bottom and click on the last picture, which should be of a lizard. You will see the image and the effects I want to learn.

I think that is just a drawing that has been colorized in photoshop
