enhancing colours

hi! anyone know any good ways of enhancing the colours in a photo, i mean like really brightening them? obviously i know about saturate but that doesnt really do what i want.
i have some real close up photos of eyes taken with a bellows lens and want to make colours better and brighter....
help please!!

Perhaps if you post a link to the photo you can better give us an idea of what needs to be done, which will help you get a working solution faster. "How can I make my colors better" is an awfully vague and wide open topic when it comes to PS.
