(I am assuming Photoshop 6 here) Draw your circle using the circle mask tool. Then, with your selection active, go to your paths palette and create a path (click the Create New Path icon) that preseves the fidelity of the mask. This become your working path. Select the brush tool, go to your brushes palette and select a brush (circular, square, or a custom made rectangular brush). When you have chosen the appropriate size brush, click on the brush to open the brushes dialogue box, and move the Spacing slider to about 150-200%. You will need to experiment with this. Change the foreground color the the color you wish your dotted lines to be. Now, go back to the Paths palette, and click on the Stroke Path with Foreground Color icon (looks like a white circle with a black stroke). Your circular path will be stroked with the brush you chose, and the color you chose. The theory behind this is: Increasing the spacing of the brush lays down a single brush stroke every 2-3 brush lengths, leaving space in between. So you can get dots by using a circular brush, little squares by using a square brush, or rectangles by using a custom rectangle brush. It takes all of 2 seconds to do. The only difficult problem is getting the spacing right so you don't have overlapping brush strokes at the start and the end, or when trying to get uniformity on masks with hard edges. Best of luck! |
