Text Removal

guys.......i need help please

how do we remove text from a layer to reveal the background underneath.

i can manage the simple tasks of removing shapes i select but when it comes to the text....im stuck.

the idea being to draw an ellipse...........place text on to remove leaving the shape then emboss wats left.

this makin sense.....lol

PLace ytour text layer over the elipse layer as you want it.... CTR+Click the text layer
Then select the elipse layer in the layer pallet and hit delete.... that will "knockout" the shape of the text from the elipse.
