How to do this effect?

I would really like to know how to make the grid that twists, waves, and turns in this image.. Help is much appriciated.

I suspect that image was done at least partially in a 3D application, but you can make a grid layer and use the "perspective" filter on it , or the "Wave" filter.... ort a combination of the 2... that will do some interesting things to the grid.
