I want to do a gradient where there is no color involved, just opacity.

I want to wrap a circle around an image and have the center of the circle/image be full color, and then have the image gradient to 0% opacity as it goes away from the center of the image.

Is this possible?

yes, of course, its ps6

heres how i would do it (lord only knows theres probably 6 bijillion ways)-

i would merge the entire image to 1 layer(not bg layer, one on top of that) and add a mask then select all.
pick the gradient tool, select white to black(foreground to background) and click radial. now drag out a line about an inch or so, depending on how big you want the circle to be.

heres an example of what im talkin about, if its not what you were asking let me know

Try using quick mask and a gaussian blur, then delete what you don't want.
Or try using an alpha channel.
or erasers.
or layer modes.

I'll post an example or 2 later on after I get off work, if you don't get it.

good luck

Bonamo's suggestion is not exactly what I want (unless I'm missing something about the technique).

I want the image to fade into 0% opacity against a transparent background. I do not want to fade into another color, i.e. black, white, etc.

GraphicsGuy,

I am not quite sure how to do some of the things you suggest. Perhaps when you get a chance to upload examples I'll have a better idea.

Thanks for everyone's help...

well what you use for the background is irrelevant. the fading part and the duck picture are all on one layer, you could just put that layer on top of whatever you wanted (say a picture of a lawyer eating a hotdog) and then everywhere that was black would instead be the lawyer eating the hotdog..i dont see how you could mean anything else
