I create multi layered bookmarkers. These will fit
four to a sheet (8.5 x 11). How do I print four of
these at once in psd format?

I have tried dragging all four onto a newly opened
canvas that is 8.5 x 11 and it is a horrible task with
all the layers. Is there a better way?

Flattening causes certain "style" effects to distort.
I would like to print them without flattening them.

Thanks much

There are several methods for doing this, and they can change slightly or radically, depending on which version of Photoshop you're using.

So which version do you have?

Either way, you can duplicate your current document (Image---»Duplicate...), then, in your Layers Palette, click on the eyeball icon for any layer(s) you don't want in your final image. Then, go to Layers---»Flatten Visible. This should keep all blending modes intact as you see them when the original file is still separated into layers.

You should now have a copy of your original file, and it is flattened, while not disturbing the original, which you can keep layered for later editing.

Simply create a 3rd, new document large enough that you can then drag the flattened copy and copy/impose 4-up for printing. Personally, I'd do the 4-up in a page layout application such as QuarkXPress so that I could more easily add trim and registration marks.

Does that help?

I have P-6.

Despite what some people think about flattening, at least one of the "styles" effects that I am using does drastically change when it is flattened. I really wanted to print these bookmarkers without flattening, but since there are so many "styles" effects, I will just use something else and flatten before printing - no big deal.

I could not find any reference to "copy/impose". Is this a P6 command option or a figure of speech?
Also, would you tell me a bit more about QuarkXpress. I am not familiar with it.

Thanks in advance,
Yes, you are of help.

WilliamWillyWillBillyBill ;)...

Could you Zip-compress and send me a copy of your bookmarker .PSD? I'd like to have a look at the file to see what problems you're having with maintaining the look of your image when flattening. Email Me!

As for QuarkXpress....this is a professional-level large document (e.g. books, catalogs, magazines) page layout application. It would be in QuarkXpress that you would want to import (or dynamically link, actually) your Photoshop image...in the form of a .TIF or.EPS file....and lay out as many copies as you'd want to print per page. Applications like this offer more options for positioning, and it makes trim marks a snap.

Have a look at The QuarkXPress website.

Just make a new canvas ( 5 in x 5 in) white (Res. 200). Duplicate the background and start applying "styles." All rough surface styles change right before your eyes when flattened. I am surprised that
no one seems to know this. I am new to Photoshop. I have P6. There is a slight change on
some of the more smoother styles also, but so subtle that it doesn't matter.

Try these for starters: Crusty, Puzzle, Snakeskin, Candy, Asphalt, and Fiberglass.

Now I did a print test before starting this reply. Even though flattening changed these rough
surface styles on screen, they looked the same when printed. Good enough. But this creates the same problem in reverse. IOW, now I realize that what I am seeing on the screen is not what I am going to
see when I print, that is, unless I flatten then "undo flatten" as I go just to know. They print according
to the flatted look.

Sorry about the dual post in two forums. I got impatient. I'll try not to let it happen again.
