Need Help With A Certain Type Of Fading Effect

I've have been struggling to try and accomplish a fading type effect like this:



I have a couple of greyscale images of engine bays, turbos, etc. that I am trying to create the same basic effect on with a black shirt.

I've tried most all of the blur tools with a mask layer but nothing seems to fade in like the shirt above.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

try selecting your area then feather about 50 or 100 px delete you my need to select inverse first, very hard to get the idea from that image see if that helps
