Excuse my complete ineloquence in explaining the problem! I know it must be quite easy to fix but I can seem to find the option in any of the settings!
I am using the rectangular marquee tool to select an area I want to shade in, my problem is that the colour is not confined within the box I have just selected?! It fades out to grey!

Look at the feather setting. For a perfect rectangular area, it should be 0(zero)
