problems using type tool

I've been struggling with this for 2 days now- I am trying to make a watermark :

© date and my name on the next line. I manage to do the 1st line ok, but pressing 'return' to do the second line - does nothing - or rather my cursor vanishes and the text box boundary is enormous.

Im getting nowhere & all my photoshop books say 'return' should work!

I have CS3 and am on a Mac.

Hoping you can save me tearing my hair out for another few days - many thanks in advance,

Found it on another forum - 'leading' was set to 2000! all ok now.
