I wanna know how

I want to know exactly how to create this effect, http://www.handson.nu/images/lightfx/buttonfx.jpeg without using any filter (except the default filters from photoshop)

Well, I'm trying to make this kind of button look, http://www.handson.nu/images/lightfx/buttonfx2.jpeg on a text/type, without the 'type' (see the image).

And everytime, I'm not even close to that 'halo effect' which it have a different 'blur' and kind of sharp edges (corner).

Please help.

Make your rectangle

Double-click the layer

Choose "Bevel & Emboss"

Play with the "Depth" and "Size" settings until you're satisfied.

If you want it more advanced like the one in the 2nd picture, you're going to have use Lighting Effects--->See "Filter"-->Render-->Lighting Effects
