Hello, all

I have got a problem when i trying to extract a subject in a picture...

What i need to do is that ... the background of the subject is black and the subject is nickle.. i need to extract the subject out from it... and i have used the following approachs...

1. If i use magic wand tool... it will select on the subject because the subject will reflect some black colors...

2. If i use Channel and then adjust the level of the image.... it can do so, but the edge of the subject is not smooth.........

Is there any other method that i can extract the subject out quickly with smooth edge of the image.....?? Please help with urgent........... Thank you

What version are you using?

If it's 5.5 or 6.0 you could do Image>Extract
It works nicely if the background is dark and the subject is light (or the other way around)

There are countless ways to extract stuff like that.

I'll say if you really want a "good" outcome, Learn how to use the Bezier tool. (press "P" to select the pen tool)

Its the tool that looks like a fountain pen.

by playing dot-to-dot by placing "nodes" about 1 pixel inside the edge of the subject. Make smooth curves by clicking and dragging in the direction of the next "node".
you can make a perfect selection and extract EXACTLY what you want.

tornupinside calls it a "bezier tool" for the rest of us its just a pen tool... :P

but, he is quite right.. the pen tool is probably the best tool for selecting things, but it takes a tremendose amount of practice to get good with..

Snore..

ps: just foolin around (with the first paragraph..)
