Hi!

I wounder if anyone knows how to create transperent GIF's the way you were able to in PS 5.5? In PS 5.5 I just used the export function but in PS 6 it has been removed for some stupid reason!

Thank you for your time!

Use the save for web feature. Just leave a blank area wherever you want it to be transparent. Anywhere you can see the 'photoshop white and grey squares' will be transparent. Then save for web.

Yes I know how to do that. But when I use it on the web the edges on the text look rough and edgy. I want the "antialised", hope you understand what I mean!

Thanks!

Anti-aliasing is hard to do in a transparent GIF at all. I would suggest setting the background color of the text in Photoshop the same as or close to the color that you will put it on in the web page.

In PS 5.5 there were some thing called "Gif89a export", is that function totally erased? That function made it possible to choose a color and then select it as a "transparent" color.

Thanks!

You don't need to do that anymore... Just delete the portions that you want to be transparent.

For example... open a new document, make a selection and press delete. You should see the grey and white checker pattern. That area will be transparent.

Here's a tutorial if you don't understand what I'm saying.

Just keep your image on a layer with a transparent
background. Delete the actual Background layer from the Layers
palette and then choose File > Save For Web. Then select the
Transparency check box and click OK. Your Web graphic will
automatically be made transparent on the Web. Keep in mind that this works only on GIF files.

To get rid of the harsh edges just set the "matte" setting to a color similar to the background it will be used on.

i.e. I usually make one with a dark gray matte (for black or dark backgrounds) and one with a light beige matte (for light or white backgrounds)
