This is a really dumb question, but here goes anyhow.. ;) I have a lot of images that require the brightness and the contrast altered. Right now these images are about 120kb. After I alter the brightness etc, and save them...the file size ends up to be around 33 kbs and they look terrible. Now, that is saving using the normal "save" or "save as" function. The only way I can get them to stay the same size or even close to the same size, is to use the save for web feature. That's fine but it takes me much longer to go through that process than to simply hit the save button. How can I change the save properties so the save function doesn't compress the images so much. I am more used to using Paintshop Pro (in which the save properties can be changed easily), but I really like a lot of Photoshop features, and would like to get more familiar with it but having to use the "save for web" function is far too time consuming for me. In Paintshop Pro, when you change the save properties they stay at the compression level you choose until you change them again. thanks bon |

do a save a copy, you can change stuff there anyways, save for web optimizes your image, so its gd to wait. and its slow probably cause you have a low amount of RAM PS is a RAM hog... |

No, I want to save the original....I want to make the modifications, and save it. I just don't want photoshop to automatically compress it down to 1/4 of its original size. I have lots of ram....196K to be exact....Using the save for web function is the ONLY way I have found to save where I can control the compression...or save it without compression. To be more clear, all I want to do is lighten up the images and save them. PS is compressing the image. "Somewhere" in this program there must be a way to change the save. This is a very simple thing...at least it seems as if it should be. |

No, ;) none of these files need to be saved as psd files....only as jpegs....that's what I mean....this is simple. LOL. ;) The images I have to save are too dark...they simply need to have the brightness and the contrast adjusted and then those changes saved.....right now they are jpgs and need to be saved as jpgs...so what I want to do...is pull up the images...change the br and contrast, and hit save. Which is no problem...the problem is, photoshop compresses the jpgs from 120 kbs down to 33kb... DURING the save process. I want the images to stay approximately the same size. Sorry for not being more clear... ;( |

LOL....Ok let me ask you to try this....take any jpeg...doesn't matter how big. But make a note of the size it is to begin with. Change the contrast or brightness...or do SOMETHING to it...then save it - just use the regular save button... NOW what is the size of the file now after you have re-saved it. ? For me..the jpg starts out as 120 kb...and ends up at 33kb AFTER the adjustment and the save process....(these numbers are just an example of the compression problem) Maybe that is the problem...perhaps my photoshop some how got messed up....and I do need to reinstall it...I dont know..;( If you try that little experiment, please let me know what your final jpg size was....;) This is SUPER frustrating!! Surely there is a way to change those save properties...??? |
