dodge blending mode problems

i went from using 4.0 for about two years to using 6.0 about a year ago, and but lately i've been having problems with blending modes.

Nine times out of ten, when i try to switch a layer's blending mode from normal to dodge, it doesn't work. i dunno if this is just some weird problem 6.0 has that 5.0/5.5 didn't have (never used 5.anything), but its seriously driving me crazy.

Is there something i've gotta do before switching to dodge or what? What am i missing?

Wish i could help but i never had 4...

I heard that dodge was completely dif on 6 than it was in early edditions
