arghh someone help

to slice up your interface you have to flatten the layers, correct?

if so, how do you remove the white crappy background and make it transparent so the interface will go on any color.

using imageready....NO you dont have to flatten the image.
and its good practice to use whatever color/texture you are gonna use on the site as your background layer in your interface.
