Whats the deal you have to flaten the image to make fire text and it locks all the layers. Any one know what I'm talking about?

ok.. I want to put some flame text on another image but after making the flame text photoshop wont let me move the flame text onto the other image. I guess this is becuase when making the flame text you have to flatten the image witch locks the layers. So I'm asking is there a way to make flame text and still be able to move it onto another image. I made the flame text following this tutorial http://www.dsigning.com/photoshop/texteffects/fire/ |

after you get finished doing the tutorial there are a lot of ways to do this...but for ease of explanation do this double click the magic wand tool..... in the options pallet set it for tolerance 0 (zero) click on the black area in the background of your image this will make a selection of the black background... ctr+shift+I to invert your selection and just have your fire text selected.... to make sure you dont have an ugly black outline left behind go to the "select" menu Select/Modify/Contract with a value of 1 (if this doesn't get rid of the black outline try a greater value) now ctr+shift+I again and delete you should have only the fire text remaining Hope this helps |

Or you could just duplicate the layer. PS will then allow you to drag it over.

Well I'm able to move the fire text over to the new image but when it's moved over all the color is taken off the fire text.. There must be a way to put fire text on another image.

Ok, I looked over the tutorial, didn't do it though. And what I suggest you do is change the image mode back to RGB Color from Indexed Color. Then you will be able drag the layer on to another image. If the background is black just change the image mode to "screen". That will hide all thats black.
