I know how to do a drop shadow on text but I cannot figure it out for a picture. I am using Photoshop 5.0. I have opened up a new picture........ then what. I'm pretty new to photoshop so any help would be greatly appriciated.

Again love ths site!

several ways to so it...

one quick and easy way I use alot is:

Open photo:
first double click the background layer and name it whatever.
Make a selection -as if you are cropping the photo.
MAke a new layer name it "shadow" and fill your selection with black
move that layer to the bottom in the layers pallet
now select your photo layer again (with that same selection still active)
at the bottom of the layers pallet click the "quick mask" button
Now select the "shadow" Layer with the black box on it again hit the "V" key and move it down and to the side you wish using the arrow keys on the keyboard.
Now go Filter>Blur>guassian and blur the shadow layer and adjust the opacity.... flatten the image and you have a drop shadow.
