What are the settings so a transparent .gif will come out with better quality than this? The quality of the picture it was taken from is much better. Look. So I know it's not my image quality thats crappy. Btw - it's the export as transparent I've been using with the image on a transparent background, if that helps any. If there's a way to save a .gif as a transparent image with a pre-defined color as the transparent sections, that'd be great too. |

After looking at the two images, I'm not sure from which direction to attack your problem. On the one hand, the original image would be much better suited to being exported as a JPEG, considering that it's photographic in nature. The quality of the JPEG you posted is just fine. On the other hand, the GIF image you linked to is simply square, and doesn't appear to need any transparency, so JPEG, which doesn't support transparency, would be just fine. Can you explain with much more detail how you intend to use the image and how it will be integrated with any backgorund behind it? What part(s) of that cropped image needs to be transparent, and why? Perhaps you could put together an annotated mock-up to show what you mean, if that would be easier than describing it. |

woah, i really love your wallpapers sinsation, my fav is alienated v.1, and the evil within... that's some cool texture-ish effects.... nice and clean looking too. i also really like your site, i think that the twirly nautilus thing is pretty cool, although the nav is hard to read, i like it... as far as your transparent thing...yea i don't know why it needs to be transparent since your object is just a square... |

It's not a plain square. Notice the upper left and lower right corners. They're diagonally cut. Page they're on: http://dijitalgirl.net/girl.php Amen, thx for all the good comments. =] Oh, and the original image IS a .jpg already. It's the smaller exported .gif I'm having problems with. |

Hmmmm....which is the JPEG and which is the GIF? JPEG, on the left, is a direct crop from your large image. GIF on the right, was pretty simple to get. First, I went to Image--»Mode--»Indexed Color... and set it to Perceptual, 256 colors, Forced Black and White, Transparency unchecked (which you can check when you do it) Dither-"None". Then, when I did a "Save for Web" I used GIF, Custom, 64 colors, no dither. Can you take it from there? And are you the Mel I see over at the Planet Photoshop Forum? They know me as Phosphor there.... |
