Hi, I just created PS6 actions, and I'm looking to make them PS5.x compatible. But I don't have PS5.x -- just PS6. Is there a way to make those actions compatible with PS5 without PS5? Did that make sense?? If anyone can help me out, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks! rockergrrl |

I'm not sure if this can be done...but I'd like to get some back-up on this info. There were changes made when Adobe coded Photoshop 6, and there are several items that aren't backward-compatible with earlier versions. Brushes made in Photoshop 6, for example, can't be directly loaded into earlier versions. This may also apply to Actions. I'm thinking the only way to do what you want is to re-record them in an earlier version of Photoshop and save them from there. Since you don't have an earlier version, that could be a problem... Save the actions in question out of PS 6, compress them using WinZip, Stuffit or whatever you have, and email them to me at this address and I'll see if I can help you out. |

Actually none of the actual actions contain brushes, etc. Mostly filling, etc and exporting to the web, and the like I'm making these for a friend of mine's project, DeskPro of the PSDs that someone else created (c-pr0mpt over at vB - where I also can be found). I'll have to send over the PSDs your way in order for you to get much stuff done... I'll email the action as well as the PSDs this morning. Thank you!!! Tonya |

Please make sure you compress anything as small as possible. I'll probably only need the action(s) from PS 6 which I'd open and re-write in PS4, but if you must send me PSD files, dump any extra layers, channels etc if they're not essential for the action to work, or flatten the image if that's possible. What I meant by saying that Adobe changed the coding, I mean that they rewrote a lot of the functions at a core level....that is to say, how Photoshop interprets instructions. Brushes are just one of the things that aren't backwards compatible. |

I sent you the zip before you posted this out. The PSDs are pretty much clean to begin with -- this kid knows what he's doing. All the layers are pretty much essential - because they're selected, etc. And the PSDs are probably deinitely needed in order for the actions to work -- because they use them to change colors, etc. This is a color changing action -- not a image creation action. (kinda like vButton is to vBulletin and the other action script that is out there for the graphics dev kit for vBulletin) Thanks again!! Tonya |
