URGENT--Need to make simple "force field"

I know this is a beginner question, but it looks like that forum isn't checked as much as this, so I'll ask this here...

Ok, I tried the Neon Glow, but what I need is a kind of solid color, and when I do the neon, it looks airbrushed. So, is there any way to do some kind of field/outline around my image that is the same consistent color throughout?

Also, I tried Stroke, but the outline isn't smooth at all, and it looks terrible... Anyway to fix this?

If you're using Photoshop 6, you can use the "outer glow" layer style.


When you work with the outer glow layer style, you can adjust several options with slider adjustment bars to achieve the look I think you are wanting. Just be sure to change the blending mode to normal if you want to use darker colors.

I'm using 5.5, and I don't think it has that, but correct me if I'm wrong..

Anything else I can try?
