Sounds like you have quite an issue on your hands.... Why not try this: try renaming the extention from .tmp to .bmp... Make sure you are trying to open the actual image file, and not the "actions" temp file. Try making a copy before renaming and opening, so if there IS a way to restore them, you haven't just corrupted one.

I really haven't ever had this issue.. as I always (notice, I say ALWAYS) save my files before leaving the computer. Computers are great, but software is fickle.

Edit:
Oh yeah, and why are you taking it out on your monitor? Your monitor had NOTHING to do with it.. ;)

how many pictures did you have open at one time? sounds like 50. Is that the case?

I had the same problem. I depends on the camera your using. Try renaming the file to a TIF extension then open up MS Imaging ( accesories - imaging ) and open the file. Make sure your in the editing part of MS Imaging. (*You will be if you open the program first then load the file.)

Good Luck.

Hate to be the one to tell ya but....

That temp file is all but worthless... I have NEVER seen one recovered and have tryed everything under the sun. That horse it dead.

I will tell you that this question has come across the Adobe forum more than once and there has NEVER been a good answer for it.

Unconfirmed:
People have posted that you can:

A) drag that *.tmp file from the explorer ("finder" level macintosh) level into a running photoshop window (or onto the shortcut icon on your desktop)
->>>>never had this work for me.
B) Try opening it using the "Raw" file type to open it.
->>>>it will open it....sometimes... but it don't look NOTHING like a photo. :(

C) Rename it into a .psd file
->>>> This surely doesn't work in that the bit order is all wrong.

As I said I've never had ANY of these things work for me, and can't confirm that the folks that said these things worked actually had them work. Thats just all I know on the subject...off the top of my head.

....but in short....
That horse is dead.

I would have to agree with Charm on that one. Once graduated, school doesn't have a place anymore, that I do know :p
