Anybody know how the flag and top of the building was blended into the background color on the left of the images. When I tried to recreate it with a gradient the color of the gradient became the backround color, but the thing is I want to keep a solid backround not a graidient one. Please help? the image is at the top of the page http://www.state.nj.us/cgi-bin/governor/njnewsline/default.pl |

2 layers Layer 1--Bottom --Place your flag image Layer 2--Top --Use a "Transparent to Colored" gradient --Transparent on the left, drag your little "gradient line" just slightly from left to right....only make it about an inch long. **Test your results. You'll get it how you want it exactly after just a few tries. |

one thing you should DEFINITELY learn about photoshop is masking. thats how that was done. layer masks are one of the top most important features in photoshop when it comes to photo retouching and creating graphics and such. its a lot to get into but basically masks are exactly that, they cover a portion of your image to expose what is underneath. you can have solid masks or gradated masks to create a fade effect such as in your flag image. if you want to know more send me a PM or an email -andy |
