Why is it that whenever I make a circle in a new layer, cntrl select, and select/modify/contract it doesn't appear to be as nice of a circle as the original. It sort of looks like one 'cept sort of edgy. I guess my question is how do you make a nice bullseye sort of thing without doing layers and layers of varying circles. thanks in advance.

select/modify/contract only works with small changes ex. 2-3 px.. the only other way is to make lots of layers, then center them.. Snore |

If you absolutely refuse to create multiple layers, you could try this method.... Create a circle selection on an empty layer. Then go to edit>stroke. Make the pixel width as little or as much as you want. Choose any of the stroking methods too, such as inner, outer, or center. Now deselect the stroked circle and repeat edit>stroke, but this time use a different color, and use the "outside" stroking method. Then repeat this same step, but choose the same color you used the 1st time. Keep doing this until you have achived a bulls-eye effect. Granted, this method isn't as perfect visually as creating multiple layers and centering them with guides, but it works.

if it comes to creating perfect poroportional lined up shapes, i usually create the shapes i need in illustratos and then import them into photoshop. PS just wasnt made to create perfect basic shapes. if you have a vector program available to you, use it:D

to create a perfect circle (or square for that matter) selection... simply hold shift while making the selection.
