Hi there,

Does photoshop have a size limit when it comes to font size? Here's what I'm doing, I'm making a banner for my sister's store and she needs it 18" height and 72" width. Anyways since my comp can't handle that size I have started with 6" x 24" at 900 dpi. So when I type in my text at 3000px half of it disappear when I click ok. What's up with that? When I go to edit it, it's still there. Have anybody come across this before?

Appreciate any feedback.

Peace.

Ummm, sounds to me like your 3,000 pxl fontsize is too large for the image size you created.

You can always go to the resize image command and resize it to something larger.

Another thing you can try is doing a couple of words at a time. if one layer contains too much data, some weird stuff can happen... (non-rendered layers, that is).

Hey thanks for the response SavageDawg,

Not really sure what you mean when you say that "Ummm, sounds to me like your 3,000 pxl fontsize is too large for the image size you created. " I don't have sentences either, it's just two words and they are both on their own layer.

I made a smaller one before and it was fine. It's when I blow it up to a large size that the letters start disappearing. Could it be something to do with hardware? Like my video card, amount of ram...etc.

Peace.

Sure, it could be RAM or hardware, but I doubt it... Unless you are running on 32 MB of RAM, you should be doing ok. I don't really have a problem with text size. You could try creating the text at a size that isn't effected, rendering the layer, and making the text larger. That may help.

As for the sentence that you quoted:

I was referring to this... If you created an image that was 400 pxls high and 400 pxls wide (hypothetical, of course), and you tried to use a font of say, 3000, you would lose some of the text to the outside of the image.

While thinking about this (and writing this message), it could be a zoom issue. PS seems to like to leave out sh*t at odd zoom levels. Try zooming out on the image, see if that helps. I get this problem with lines. I could create an awesoe curvy line at 50%, but then zoom back to 66%, and some of it is missing.

Try zooming back, or resizing a rendered text layer.

Hope this helps.

Nope, it's not the zoom. I went from 100% to 6% and part of the word still doesn't show. It only shows when I go in the edit mode. Frickin thing is drivin' me batty. Oh well at least it's only my sister :D . If there's anything else you can suggest I would appreciate it.

Peace.

Hmmm. Ok, how about trying a smaller font size? If you are using 3000, try 2000. With the number in the size box selected, you should be able to press the down arrow on the keyboard to decrease size by one. If you hold the button down, it will FLY through the numbers, so it shouldn't take long. If not, you can always input numbers in decreasing order to "try and see" what the largest size for the specific font/typeface you are using can be used in your image. Chances are, it will be much smaller than what you are looking for. If you want to, you can also create two images, one with one set of word(s), one with another, and splice them together to print.

I guess I'm of no help.. .heh heh

Actually you're alot of help. I'm just a dumbass with a lame computer that takes forever to render any kind of effect. Anyways I think I'll just take my chances and tell the printer guy that it is there. My sister would love that if she had to pay twice. Oh well it's her money. I told her I've never done this before. He he he. Thanks anyway SavageDawg.

Peace.

Do every thing in vectors at 1/2 scale and just resize if photoshop can't not handle(well PC not ps) it use illustrator 8 are 9 to finish the art work off 18 x 72 inches is a big image which requires a big font but you will have to do it as a vector than scale it to fit ur needs
