I GOT PROBLEMS WHEN I TRY TO RECOVER MY 5,5 COMPS IN 6. I'M USING A LOT OF COLOR DODGE LAYER WHICH ARE HANDDRAWNED. IT MEANS THAT EACH BRUSH HAS DIFFERENT OPPACITY (LIKE HIGHLIGHT IN A CITY LANDSCAPE). I REALY CAN'T WORK WITH PS6. I READ A POST ABOUT FIXIN THIS (FILL THE LAYER WITH BLACK IN BEHIND MODE AND ADJUST THE ADVANCED BLENDING MODE) BUT IT IS NOT THE SAME. I GOT A LOT OF COMPS WHICH ARE STILL IN PRODUCTION AND I CA'NT SEND THEM TO MY CLIENT (THEY HAVE PS6 AARGH). IT'S A BIT WEIRD BECAUSE AFTER EFFECT (AN ADOBE PRODUCT ) WORKS WITH THE OLD COLOR DODGE. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO FIX IT? DOES THE NEXT VERSION OF PHOTOSHOP WILL HAVE THE PREVIOUS COLOR DODGE ASPECT? ANGRY MATTE-PAINTER |

Yeah - there is something very wierd about new Dolor Dodge - you will notice also that the Color Dodge on layer effects actually seems to be different to the Color Dodge on layer blending modes! If you use "create layers' you will see what I mean. At the moment Adobe engineers are denying everything - and saying it should all be compatible, but there is definately something wrong with the math they have used in 6. Least thats my opinion. Can't really help you with your problem - you will have to try to re-create the same effects in 6 somehow. |

I'M WORKIN FOR THE ADVERTISEMENT INDUSTRY, AND "SOMETHING LIKE" OR "ALMOST THE SAME" ARE NOT WORDS THAT THEY UNDERSTAND. I CA'NT GIVE THEM MY OLD COMPS BECAUSE THEY HAVE UPGRADED THEIR PHOTOSHOP 5,5 TO 6. I CA'NT GIVE THEM A FLAT IMAGE BECAUSE THEY NEED TO PUT SOME TEXT BETWEEN THE BACKGROUND AND THE HIGHLIGHTS AND SHADOWS THE AD CAMPAIGN IS STILL RUNNING. THEY JUST WANT TO TYPE THE SAME TEXT IN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE. SHOULD I FORCE MY CLIENTS TO WORK WITH THE OLD 5,5? THAT'S WHAT I'M DOIN WITH ALL MY COLLEGUES, FRIENDS AND RELATIVES WHAT SHOULD I DO? HOW CAN I CONTACT THE ADOBE PHOTOSHOP DEVELOPPER TEAM ? I CAN SEND THEM SOME SAMPLES OF MY COMPS. IF THEY CAN HAVE THE SAME (I MEAN EXACTLY THE SAME) RENDER ASPECT THEN BRAVO STILL ANGRY MATTE PAINTER |

You might try some 'selective' merging of layers....keeping layers that will still allow them to insert their text. I have only been effected by this one time (so far) coming from earlier versions to PS6. In that instance we "DID" end up merging things to selective layers...and had to do some creative "fixing" with with a few additional layers. As for the "WHAT SHOULD I DO?" I would ask them to install version 5.5 on a machine just because of this... ADOBE problem. Stress that it isn't something You can fix, and that you are researching and have been in contact with Adobe about it yada, yada, yada As far as contacting Adobe.... Try the Photoshop user to user forum on the Adobe website... Chris Cox (the 12th Name on the list of production people on the Adobe Photoshop Splash screen when you start PS6) answers questions on there. |

He probably wont answer this one - theyve had it too many times already! Are you absolutely sure that the filling behind with 100% black and advanced blending doesn`t work? As Torn said your answer is probably to merge all the other layers and just keep your type layer editable (provided the type layer isn't the Dodge layer that is). You want to be careful about giving clients fully editable PSD`s anyway - they will only **** around with it thats my experience. Why dont you give us a link so that we can see the image or link to a downsampled version of the PSD. I guarantee that there will be a solution - and some way to get the same effect in 6 as there was in 5! |
