Sounds as though you are choosing the wrong type of rectangle shape. When you choose the rectangle shape, you will see an options bar at the top of the screen. Near to the left of the options bar you will see three different types of shape that can be created. The left option creates shape layers which are normally filled with either the current style or the current foreground colour if no style is selected. The right option will give a simple rectangle filled with the current foreground colour. The middle option will create a path in the shape of your rectangle. Once you have a path, you can open the paths pallet and use the "stroke path" option in the pallet menu to add a stroke to the path. An alternative way of doing what you want, and probably simpler, is just to use the rectangular selection tool to make your rectangle. All you then need to do is to choose Edit/Stroke and add a stroke to the selection. Hope this helps. |

Photoshop does not have this "Simple Solution", as you put it, but both the methods I described to you will produce a shape with a stroke of your choice around the edge. If you followed my instructions, you would have got what you want. In the sample image below you can see what to expect with different methods. If this is not the effect you are looking for, perhaps you could explain your needs a little more. Bye for now. |
